I am really disappointed with conservative talk show hosts during this election cycle. This year, with the progressive Mitt Romney likely to be the GOP presidential candidate, it’s a unique opportunity for hosts like Rush Limbaugh to stand against the GOP establishment and to stand for the liberty and freedoms of the American people. Instead of cowing down and/or making excuses, ignoring Romney’s progressive records, and being a long-faced sheep, these talk show hosts should encourage the people to either vote for Gary Johnson, write in a name, or simply boycott the presidential election and focus on the Senate and House.
Actually, the truly disturbing thing was early in the primaries these talk show hosts did not do their job in exposing Romney. They were often vocal of Ron Paul’s stand on international affairs, but were, in my opinion, very soft against Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich.
It’s easy to take a hard stand against Obamacare and the Supreme Court because those are political talking points. The truly hard thing to do is take a hard stand against your own party and supporters.
If people like Rush Limbaugh truly had the fire of a man like Patrick Henry, then we would hear them defy the GOP by standing against the GOP’s progressive agenda. I fear that instead of being like Patrick Henry, they have chosen to be like Benedict Arnold and put their careers in front of the needs of the American people. Truly, these so-called conservative Tea Party-supporting talk show hosts have failed us, the people! They have taken the middle ground with Romney while attacking the Democrats in order to deflect Romney’s problems.
In the end, people like Limbaugh and Hannity will defend Romney under the heading of “Anybody but Obama” and/or “This is what the primary process gave us, and even if we don’t like it, we must defeat Obama!” They will defend Romney all because of the “party” while down talking any 3rd party movements and those who wish to consider another option. They will advise us to stand together and defeat Obama while ignoring the fact that Romney’s ideology represents the same problems as Obama’s ideology, just not as openly or as fast-paced.
Now that Romney has picked Paul Ryan to be VP, these conservative talk show hosts are a buzz with how great Ryan will be and how he will cut waste with his budget ideas. They will uplift Ryan as a fiscally responsible defender of small government and a friend of the tax payer. What they will fail to tell you is that Ryan is a big government, bait-and-switch, DC politician whose record has the glaring marks of TARP, No Child Left Behind, and other big government wasteful entitlements. These talk show hosts are no different than their liberal counterparts in how they spin the facts, create defenses for Ryan, and ignore his record. If anything is pointed out about Ryan’s record, they all hide behind, “Well nobody is perfect, and he is better than Obama!”
I have been told by many that if I do not vote for Romney, then it is a vote for Obama. I refuse to betray my core beliefs about capitalism, liberty, and personal freedom from tyranny just to win an election by voting for a progressive with an R in front of his name. So, I am not the one throwing my vote away. Those who are willing to compromise and vote for Romney are the ones throwing away our country’s future!
And another thing, if you claim to be Tea Party and you were bought with Ryan’s nomination as VP, then please stop and ponder Ryan’s record. There is nothing about Ryan that is Tea Party and/or free market.
This is not a defender of small government and the free market system.
